May 18th Ceili

How has the Portland Ceili Society been able to put on Irish dances for the past 29years?

Aerobic, fast paced and culturally disparate in a city far removed from the Emerald Island, the dancing is not for the weak of heart or faint of limb.
The simple answer is that is fun. Try not to smile as world famous Irish musicians (think Kevin Burke, Martin Hayes or Johnny Connolly) take to the stage. The May 19th Ceili features premier Seattle band Crumac with Dale Russ on fiddle, Tom Creegan on uellian pipes and Mike Saunders on guitar. With the ubiquitous Sam Keater calling, it should be a night to remember.

April 20th Ceili

This is the 30th year of the Portland Ceili Societies 3rd Friday dances. Eddie Parente, fiddle, has played in at least 30 of them over the years and will be joined by Geraldine Murray, penny whistle, and Nancy Conescu, guitar and vocals. Dance and enjoy an evening of traditional Irish music. No partner or experience required. All dances are taught and called.  Come at 8pm for the lesson, stay till midnight for the fun and frivolity.

The Portland Ceili Society is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization whose mission is to promote, preserve, educate and encourage the practice of traditional Irish dance, song and music in the Portland metropolitan area.
