Announcing the 2013-2014 Dance Season

The Portland Ceili Society has a new home! The Norse Hall has graciously has opened its doors to us for most of the season. This is definitely a step up in quality from the old PPAA Hall.  If you are familiar with the Norse Hall (there are many dances held there), we will be in the upstairs Lodge Room. Although slightly smaller than the PPAA, there is seating all around the perimeter. There are elegant ladies and gentlemens lounges to change your shoes and stow your possessions. The separate bar (on the first floor) and its staff are excellent and professional (warning: their drinks tend to be strong).

This is naturally a more expensive venue, and although we have taken the step of running our own sound system, we still need a good turnout on a regular basis to keep going. Stay tuned...

Last Ceili...Of The Season and Annual Meeting

Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the Portland Ceili Society occurs on Saturday May 11th at 3:00 Pat the The Church of the Acoustic Redemption on 8325 N. Central, Portland. This will be a potluck. If you are a player, you should bring your instruments, in case some tunes break out. Which might even lead to dancing. But of course we will also report on the State of the Society and make plans for the next season. You are encouraged to attend!

See you on the dance floor.

About the Jammy Dodgers:
Since their start in 2010, The Jammy Dodgers have been bringing traditional Irish music with a novel twist to the Bay Area and beyond. From the high-energy driving rhythm of Irish jigs and reels to melodic airs and sean nós ('old style') songs (sung in both Irish and English), they stay well in touch with the roots of the music, while infusing it with their own special style. Their influences include Skara Brae, The Bothy Band, early De Dannan, Liz Carroll, Planxty, and bohola.

The band has performed at a number of notable events, including the Crossroads Irish-American Festival, the official San Francisco St. Patrick's Day celebration, the Sea Music Festival at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, and the Alameda Celtic Festival. They are regulars at The Plough and Stars in San Francisco, the first home of Irish music in the Bay Area.
